I love your reaction as always. I'm a bit disappointed the requester chose the studio album lyric video though. This song did nothing for me until I heard it played live.

Also is funny you're asking for a longer version because of the time signatures switching back and forth, thing is KobaMetal did it with Tales Of The Destinies and The One (both were originally one song and later split in two parts), and iirc you didn't like TOTD (Dream Theater tribute) but you loved The One. This song was part of the World Tour 2023, they didn't play it this year yet, in fact last setlist at Sick New World they didn't play one song from latest album, only METALI!! which is outside of it. Btw the girls did a mini interview at Rock Sound talking about Slipknot and looking for a new collab with them. Anyway next May 23 is coming a new collab along with Electric Callboy called RATATA, they just released a teaser but no music yet. I’m surprised to see you so confused about this song, but honestly I am not as musically literate as you (which is why I love your reactions), and I never really “loved” the song but the breakdown and the thrash drum beats in the “mirror mirror” part really stuck out to me. Now if I may speculate, lyrically this song is supposed to reflect a state of existential confusion. It remember watching Andrew Hartley’s video on this and he did a pretty good job speculating on the lyrics. So for me to see you so confused by it, I think BM made a successful song for that from a musical standpoint.

Great review as always DH! I know you typically don’t take lyrics into consideration, but in my opinion, it would justify the chaotic feel, to convey an unresolved inner struggle. This song questions one’s identity: which is the real true-self? The reflection in the mirror or the “real” me? I’m no expert of course, so maybe it’s all a coincidence… but then again, the FOX GOD works in mysterious ways 🤣. 🤘🦊

This is probably my favorite of their most recent songs, but I agree that each 'section' could've been longer/further developed. As a whole it kinda feels like samples of different songs.

Agree that the song is too short. It's one of my favorites off of The Other One, but it really feels like a sample from a much longer song. Su's vocals often strike me as over processed in the studio and it makes no sense when anyone who has heard her sing live knows that she regularly kills it live. In songs like Kingslayer, I got what they were going for, but on their own music, it's just annoying. Will never stop loving them though. Can't wait to see what they do with Electric Callboy!

I love the visuals in this lyric video .. they do show them on the big screen behind them in the live performances too ... but it is studio audio and, much as I like it, the live is so much better. On the vocals, again this is the studio recording and they are processed as always - maybe not as overdone as in previous albums, but yes they have messed with them and as always Su-metal's live vocals are so much better without all that (other than those two lines where it is a very deliberate choice). Also, how often have we heard Su-metal channelling Snow White's step mother or Moametal quoting Shakespeare's witches from MacBeth? The theme for this song is about the duality of realities, questioning whether the image in the mirror is the true reality, is that your real self or what you imagine to be real - there is a lot of inner turmoil and confusion and a lot of that is reflected (almost accidental pun🪞) in the frequent time changes. Obviously I can tell when the beat is slower or faster etc, but I couldn't tell you whether it is quarter, half, full or double time, I just know what sounds good and works for me and this song has the Prog elements that I do appreciate.

I feel kind of same that you do about the vocals. Ofcourse I only feel same with you about them when it comes to this studio recording you heard. Live Su absolutely kills it and it makes the song sound so much better. If you heard/saw the live version I would guess you would give the song 0.5-1 points more.

the thing you have to remember about official videos is most of the time they are studio audio not live like what you here on the cd. like all of their songs this song is better live. the studio version usually fine tunes all the sounds and it can take away from the vocals. still sounds good but it is better live.

haha you got no taste besides metal. its a 2.5 hour+ concert ... its nice to have some more dialed down music. its only 2 pieces in the whole concert. get a life you can dislike it.. but it might be perfectly fine if you had 2.1 hours of symph metal. maybe its possible to do only metal since most big bands only play 1.5 hour :) (and come in late) while hogging 100 times more

The female singer Mizuho is not just eye candy but has a degree in operatic singing and is able to sing what the song needs. But she is beautiful 😊

Was coming here to say it's a bad quality upload, but everyone already was on top it haha. What's worse, is that yt also runs its own compression on whatever you upload. It's why I hate watching new release videos by bands on yt. I go to iTunes and I have my account settings to download the highest bitrate, and the hi-res lossless audio version. Even steaming on those platforms sucks because they are naturally set to stream lower quality for data savings, unless you physically change the settings.

This song came out in 1989 but the name of the song was almost like a prediction of what was to come 16 years later, which after that happened the radio stations quit playing this song out of respect for the victims of it

Eminem definitely lives up to the name of the song, plus when he was coming up in the rap scene he started out as a battle rapper. he also talks about some of the people who inspired him like Run DMC who he inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, and Eminem is kind of a king at using double and triple entendre's in a lot of his songs

Everybody's not gonna have the same opinion (obviously) but this song is craaaaaazy good. The breakdowns and the gospel chops towards the end makes me wanna learn drums even though I have 0 music inclination. I've never really admired drumming until I listened to Jaws and a few other songs from Sleep Token. My thoughts were "man this guy's really groovy with it!"

We should give him as much silverchair songs as we can until he likes at least one :D

Collective Soul is one of my top "I never knew they were the ones that did this song" bands.
